Digital safespaces

Although it’s great having physical safespaces for those experiencing Domestic Abuse in the local community, what the pandemic taught us was how difficult it is to access these safespaces, especially for those who are stuck in isolation with their perpetrators. Due to this, we saw an increase in safespaces going virtual.

Bright Sky App & Website

The Bright Sky App and Website is a discreet online service, aimed for those who are experiencing Domestic Abuse. Designed to be discreet, it looks like a weather app to prevent perpetrators becoming suspicious. The website can be accessed with a stable internet connection and the app can be downloaded onto any smartphone or mobile device. Please only download this app if it is safe for you to do so.

The app has built-in surverys deisgned to assess the safety of a relationship, it also has a mythbusting section on Domestic Abuse. The website explains  how to spot warning signs of Domestic Abuse, alongside advice on how to best support someone facing abuse. The app and website both have a UK wide directory of Domestic Abuse services with contact numbers and helplines.

You can watch a video of how it works here

Hollie Guard App

The Hollie Guard app is another discreet digital service that is designed to keep you safe. This app can be downloaded onto any smartphone and with a simple shake of your phone, certain tap of your phone or dialling specific numbers on your phone, sends an alert with a pin of your location to the person you have identified as your emergency contatct.

UK Says No More

The UK Says No More is a national campaign aimed to raise awareness of Domestic Abuse, they have recently teamed up with crisis charity Hestia to create online safespaces for those facing abuse.

They have teamed up with online services like the Royal Mail Group, Thames Water and many more and they have created a button which can be found in the bottom left hand corner of lots of different websites. When you click on the button, it takes you to the image you see below and informs you of helplines, contact numbers and support services.
